Mayor David Shulist is one of the newcomers to Renfrew County Council after winning the 2010 Municipal Election. It was David’s first attempt at elected office. Davis is perhaps best known locally and on a broader stage for his work with the Kashubian Heritage Society, promoting local Polish Kashub culture and forging ties between Wilno and the Madawaska Valley and officials and cultural activists in the Poland, particularly in the Kaszëbë province. Prior to the 2010 Election, most of his energies were devoted to the development of the Heritage Park in Wilno and the restoration of the Opeongo Heritage Trail, which was largely responsible for bringing the first settlers to the Madawaska Valley area. Once those projects were completed, David ran for the Office of Mayor and won. David was also the official County of Renfrew Olympic Torch Bearer during the historic 2010 National Olympic Torch Run. David ran on a platform of road maintenance; encouraging local health-care initiatives, from doctor recruitment, protecting nurses and making sure that the hospital and local long-term-care facilities stay strong and supported. David serves on the County Social Services and Operations Committee.
