January 1, 2001 brought
a close to the municipal restructuring process with the amalgamations of the
Municipality of Bonnechere Valley, The Township of Whitewater Region, the
Township of Greater Madawaska, and the Township of Madawaska Valley. As a
result of these amalgamations the County of Renfrew is operating more
efficiently with 17 municipalities as compared to 36, just a few shorts years
ago.
