Pembroke, (ON): On Wednesday March 29, 2017, Enterprise Renfrew County is hosting a “Celebrating Women in Business” event in partnership with Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation at the Best Western Pembroke Inn & Conference Centre in Pembroke Ontario from 9 am – 3:30 pm.
Keynote speaker, Karen Cunningham will speak on “The POWER of the Female Entrepreneur” and discuss the shift in economic and social contexts of women in business. This includes the obstacles and barriers that many women in business are facing as well as what women and community leaders can do to help women become more successful in entrepreneurship.
You will also acquire first hand knowledge from a panel of successful women entrepreneurs and hear what they have to say about their business experiences, followed by a question and answer session with the panelists.
Karen Tretter will talk on PARO Peer Circles which are small groups of like-minded women who meet regularly to share their experiences, offer advice to each other and expand their individual and shared contact networks. One of the very exciting key elements of a Peer Circle is access to lending support through micro loans and grants to start or grow their business.
Colleen Sadler, ERC Business Consultant states “Women are fundamental to Canada’s economic prosperity, creating new businesses and new wealth at accelerating rates”.
Recent statistics indicate that there are 950,000 self-employed women entrepreneurs in Canada, who annually contribute in excess of $117 billion to the economy. Their firms represent 47% of SMEs and provide jobs for 1.7 million Canadians.
