County of Renfrew Honours Paramedics with Long Service and Exemplary Service Medals
The County of Renfrew Paramedic Service proudly recognized the dedication, professionalism, and extraordinary contributions of several members recently during a special ceremony celebrating recipients of Long Service and Exemplary Service Medals.
The awards recognize Paramedics whose careers have been marked by exceptional leadership, outstanding patient care, and unwavering commitment to the communities they serve. Recipients were honoured for reaching significant service milestones of 12, 22, and 32 years, as well as for exemplary contributions that have strengthened the Paramedic Service and enhanced care for residents and visitors across Renfrew County.
Warden Jennifer Murphy congratulated the recipients on behalf of County Council and the residents of Renfrew County.
"These honours represent far more than years of service," said Warden Murphy. "Every medal presented today reflects countless calls answered, lives impacted, families comforted, and communities supported during some of life's most challenging moments. The dedication of these individuals has helped make Renfrew County a safer, healthier, and stronger place to live."
Councillor Michael Donohue, Chair of the County's Health Committee, said the awards celebrate both longevity and excellence in public service.
"These honours recognize the professionalism, leadership, and commitment that define exceptional Paramedics," said Chair Donohue. "The recipients we celebrate today have helped shape our Paramedic Service through mentorship, expertise, and a shared commitment to advancing patient care. Their impact extends well beyond the patients they serve, influencing future generations of Paramedics."
Chief Administrative Officer Craig Kelley acknowledged the dedication required to reach these milestones.
"These medals recognize individuals whose careers have been defined by service to others," Mr. Kelley said. "Whether responding during severe weather, holidays, overnight shifts, or other challenging circumstances, our Paramedics have consistently demonstrated compassion, professionalism and unwavering commitment to patient care."
Paramedics play a critical role in the healthcare and emergency response system, providing skilled medical care, sound judgment, and reassurance when every second matters. The Long Service and Exemplary Service Medals honour those who have consistently upheld the highest standards of the profession while earning the trust and respect of patients, families, colleagues, and communities.
County of Renfrew Paramedic Service Chief Michael Nolan said the recipients exemplify the values that define the profession.
"As Chief, I couldn't be prouder of the dedication and accomplishments being recognized today," said Chief Nolan. "Each year of service represents a commitment to helping others, often in challenging circumstances. Today we honour long-serving team members, recognize exemplary service, and celebrate a remarkable career as one of our colleagues prepares for retirement. Their contributions are a testament to the strength, compassion, and professionalism of our Paramedic Service."
The following Paramedics were recognized for their years of service:
12 Years of Service: Megan Climenhage, Matt Cruchet, Chris Day, Ashley Dayment, Shawn Doyle, Brandon Dombroski, Alex Faucon, Matthew Hamilton, Kody Koepsel, Dave Libby, Brittany McBride, Mich McKenzie, Ben Pillion, Cheryl Ponsen, Stephanie Rose, Matt Rousselle, Andrew Sutherland, Stuart Theron, and Krista-Lee Thompson.
22 Years of Service: Julie Belbeck, Mathieu Grenier, John Greene, Heather Lavigne, Sean Plunkett, and David Rowe.
32 Years of Service: Robert Blackwell, Brent Daechsel, and Daryl McLoughlin.
Last year Steve Osipenko received the Exemplary Service Medal from the Ontario Association of Paramedic Chiefs (OAPC) in honour of his outstanding contributions to the profession and the Paramedic Service over his career of more than 20 years and it was recognized again here by the County of Renfrew.
The County also recognized the retirement of Robert Blackwell following nearly 33 years of dedicated service to the residents of Renfrew County.
County officials thanked all recipients for their leadership, professionalism, and lasting contributions, noting that their commitment continues to strengthen the Paramedic Service and enhance the quality of care provided throughout Renfrew County.
