Although rain threatened throughout the day, the spirits of nearly 150 golfers were not dampened as they hit the links for the 19th annual Renfrew County Warden’s Golf Tournament on June 19.

The fundraising tournament, hosted by Renfrew County Warden Jennifer Murphy, was held at the Whitetail Golf Club in the Township of North Algona Wilberforce, near Eganville. The participants enjoyed 18 holes of golf, fun contests along the way, lunch on the go, and dinner to finish the day, all while helping to raise $17,500, which will be divided equally between 10 food banks across Renfrew County.

When it came time to select a beneficiary for the proceeds of this year’s tournament, Warden Murphy said the decision was an easy one. Having witnessed firsthand the growing demand at the Eganville and District Food Bank since moving to the community, she recognized the urgent need to support food banks across Renfrew County.

“With food insecurity continuing to grow in our communities, this tournament provides an important opportunity to support food banks across Renfrew County,” said Warden Murphy. “I am truly overwhelmed by the generosity shown here today. The support has far exceeded my expectations, and these funds will go a long way toward helping individuals and families in need throughout our communities. I cannot thank everyone enough for their kindness and commitment.”

The Warden expressed her gratitude to the golfers and the sponsors who contributed to the overall success of the day and the staff of Whitetail for helping to make the day so special.

Since its inception in 2005, the Warden’s Golf Tournament has raised nearly $96,000 for various charities and organizations across Renfrew County.

“The success of the Warden’s Golf Tournament is a testament to the generosity and commitment of our community. Because of the support shown by sponsors, golfers, staff and volunteers, we are able to make a meaningful impact on organizations which need it most. It is truly heartening to see so many people come together for such important causes each year,” Warden Murphy added.

Once the scores were tallied, a new champion was crowned – the Four Horsemen – which shot a 62 on the day. The team consisted of Dennis Lazary, Garry Davis, Pedro Regalo and Nick Preyde.
