Renfrew: Accreditation Canada recently advised that Bonnechere Manor has been awarded their highest standing - “Accredited with Exemplary Standing”; Bonnechere Manor has been an accredited long-term care home for sixteen years. The award comes following a recent accreditation renewal process with Accreditation Canada.

Accreditation Canada awards one of the following four decisions following the on-site survey:

  • Accredited with Exemplary Standing
  • Accredited with Commendation
  • Accredited
  • Not Accredited

Accreditation Canada’s report contained this comment, “Bonnechere Manor has gone beyond the requirements of the accreditation program and demonstrates excellence in quality improvement.” Accreditation Canada sets national standards and shares international leading practices to facilitate continuous quality improvement. Of the 470 quality standards applicable to long-term care, the Manor met or exceeded 99.8 % of the standards.

Warden of the County of Renfrew Debbie Robinson stated,”This achievement demonstrates the organization’s commitment to ongoing quality improvement. I’m especially proud to note that this recent award means both Bonnechere Manor and Miramichi Lodge hold this highest distinction.”

Councillor Michael Donohue, Chair of the County of Renfrew Health Committee, said,”With each accreditation cycle, the quality improvement bar continues to be raised in line with the long-term care homes’ culture of continuous quality improvement. I must express my deep appreciation to staff and management for their efforts and dedication to the provision of safe, quality long-term care services.”

Paul Moreau, County of Renfrew Chief Administrative Officer/Clerk added, “I want to congratulate staff for a job well done. It is clear that the staff is very dedicated to the care of the residents of Bonnechere Manor. This accreditation is an acknowledgment of the hard work and commitment that happens every day. The launch of the Butterfly approach will be the next step in building on continuous quality improvement to continue to enhance the care of our residents.”

Shelley Sheedy, Director of Long-Term Care for the Manor, noted that “the engagement and adaptability of the care team, an ongoing commitment to excellence and actively engaged resident and family councils are credited with this success.” Mrs. Sheedy thanked the leadership role of Shelley Yantha, Director of Care, who led three of the four teams, as well as the entire management team, and co-ordination by Dianne Johnston, Administrative Assistant but noted that “the biggest thanks goes to the front-line staff who ensure resident care needs are met to the best of the their ability on a daily basis.”

Bonnechere Manor, a highly regarded long-term care home in Renfrew, Ontario, is a municipal (not-for-profit) long-term care home owned and operated with financial support from both by the County of Renfrew and City of Pembroke.

Since 1958, a wide-range of quality long-term programs and services including 24 hour nursing care, accommodation, meals, as well as physiotherapy programs and a variety of social and recreational activities have been provided to the 180 residents who call the Manor ‘home’. Bonnechere Manor is a vibrant part of the community, offering a variety of community services such as respite care and a Parkinson’s support group. Adult day programs in Cobden and Renfrew help clients in the community and provide support for caregivers. Bonnechere Manor was recently awarded a Four Year Accreditation with Exemplary Standing Award. This represents the highest award granted by Accreditation Canada and provides the Home with the opportunity to benchmark their programs and services to national standards and assists in continuous quality improvements.
