RELEASE DATE:
March 26, 2026
The County of Renfrew has planned for the rehabilitation of the Waba Creek Bridge (County Structure B121) as part of the 2026 construction season. The bridge is located on County Road 2 (White Lake Road), approximately 0.8 kilometres west of County Road 23 (Highland Road), just outside of White Lake, in the Township of McNab/Braeside.
The County continues to work diligently to reduce the negative impacts of construction for all projects. In this case, the bridge deck needs major repairs and to complete a long-lasting repair, the road at this location must be closed.
The County understands that this closure is a concern for the community and explored options to keep traffic moving over the bridge. However, the existing bridge width does not allow for safe alternating traffic while completing deck repairs. The top of the bridge deck must be fully chipped away, with some full depth repairs, and new concrete applied, which requires more space than is available with a lane open.
To avoid disrupting school travel, the closure will take place only during the summer months. Clear signage will be in place to show the detour route for travellers to White Lake and to support access to local businesses. The detour will follow Highland Road, Waba Road, Campbell Side Road, Concession Road 4, and Bellamy Road. The detour is approximately 13 kilometres and adds about 12 minutes of travel time, when travelling from one end of the bridge to the other.
Once a Contractor has been awarded the contract and the construction schedule is confirmed, notices will be delivered to area residents and businesses with a project description, general timeline, expected traffic impacts, and contact information for the County, the Contractor, and the Consultant. The project will also be posted to Municipal511 so that emergency services remain aware.
We understand the inconvenience this may cause to some, but there is no other reasonable solution at this time. Your patience and consideration are appreciated during this construction season.
