Construction Update – December 10, 2025

The County of Renfrew’s Public Works and Engineering Department has provided monthly updates on construction in the area throughout the 2025 construction season. Completed Projects

2025 was overall a successful year for the Capital Works Division of the Public Works & Engineering Department, with many projects completed as highlighted below:

  • 60.58 km of roads rehabilitated;
  • 8 bridges rehabilitated or replaced; and
  • 52.4 km of Algonquin Trail completed and opened.

Other works to highlight in support of completing the above, and the County’s overall transportation network, include the below:

  • Processing of more than 333 different permits;
  • Preparing 72 different procurement packages; and
  • Preparing several designs for 2026.

Ongoing Projects

County Road 4 (Storyland Road) – Township of Horton

Construction on Storyland Road, from Alex Lane to Highway 17, started September 22, 2025. Construction has been paused for the winter and will resume after the spring thaw in 2026.

County Road 71 (Matawatchan Rd.) – Township of Greater Madawaska

Rock removal and widening of the causeway is complete on Matawatchan Road, about 8.2km south of Highway 41. Utility relocations have also been completed, and road construction on Matawatchan Road, from Civic Address 4882 to Centennial Lake Road, continued in mid-October. Construction has been paused for the winter and will resume after the spring thaw in 2026.

County Road 512 (Foymount Road) – Township of Bonnechere Valley

Construction on Foymount Road, from Silver Lake Road to Highway 41, started September 8, 2025. Construction has been paused for the winter and will resume after the spring thaw in 2026.

County Structure B145 (Combermere Bridge) – Township of Madawaska Valley

Construction on Combermere Bridge, which is on Combermere Road, about 0.5km south of Palmer Road, started April 2, 2025, and is nearing completion with only minor works remaining. During construction, only one lane may be open to cross the bridge, with traffic control personnel directing traffic. Mill Street will be closed at Combermere Road during construction, with signs showing the detour route. Pedestrians can cross the bridge during construction. Once completed for the 2025 construction season, Mill Street will be opened, with only minor works expected in 2026 on the bridge.

County Structure C201 (Broomes Creek Culvert & Dam) – Township of Whitewater Region

Construction on Broomes Creek Culvert and Dam, which is on Foresters Falls Road, about 0.1km east of Foresters Falls, started May 1, 2025 and is expected to finish in 2026. Construction has been paused for the winter and will resume after the spring thaw in 2026. The road in this area will remain closed to all traffic, including pedestrians, with signs showing the detour route, until construction is completed in 2026. The detour will follow Kohlsmith Road and Queens Line.
