Renfrew: The County of Renfrew has been notified of a case of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-2019) involving a County of Renfrew employee who works at Bonnechere Manor. Up until May 4th, testing had been restricted to people with COVID symptoms. However, with increased swab and lab capacity, the Home, with the assistance of County of Renfrew paramedics, implemented surveillance testing of all residents and staff this past week. It was through this proactive testing that a positive result was found.

“It is with regret that we must announce that an employee of our long-term care home in Renfrew has tested positive for COVID-19,” said Warden of the County of Renfrew Debbie Robinson. “Our best wishes are with the employee, who has no symptoms and we wish the individual a speedy recovery. This individual is isolated at their home to prevent the spread of infection to others, “she added.

Residents and staff that were in contact with this individual have been notified and rigorous infection management practices and procedures remain in place. The Home has been working in close partnership with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit to ensure every possible step has been taken to protect residents.

The Home has been preparing for this potential eventuality and have closely followed both the local and provincial public health recommendations. “Our residents and employees’ health and safety are our top priority and we will continue to follow the advice of our colleagues at Public Health to ensure our people are protected while providing care and delivering essential services to our residents”, said Director of Long-Term Care, Shelley Sheedy.

The County of Renfrew thanks the community for its understanding during this difficult time and assures the public it is continuing to make decisions in the best interest of our residents and staff to ensure their health and safety is first and foremost.
