Pembroke: The County of Renfrew, which operates Miramichi Lodge, is pleased to advise the community that the COVID-19 outbreak within the Home was declared over by the Renfrew County and District Health Unit today, March 29, 2021.

While the County of Renfrew continues to mourn the loss of two residents, they are thankful that five residents recovered. Dr. Robert Cushman, Medical Officer of Health for the Renfrew County and District Health Unit said, “There is no doubt that the fact that almost all of the residents had been vaccinated played a key role in these residents recovering. I continue to encourage everyone who can get the vaccine to do so”. Dr. Cushman went on to say, “It is critical going forward that we all remain vigilant in upholding the public health protocols to protect our residents, staff and visitors.”

The residents received their first dose of the Moderna vaccine on February 8th followed by their second dose on March 8th. At this time, 100% of the residents have received their first dose with most now fully vaccinated. Eighty-six percent of staff have been vaccinated to date with more scheduled and 98% of essential caregivers are vaccinated.

Warden Debbie Robinson said, “On behalf of County Council I thank the residents and their families for their patience and understanding as management and staff went ‘above and beyond’ to get through this outbreak. There is no question that the preplanning for such an emergency put the Home and its residents and staff in the best possible position to fight COVID-19. This could have had a much more devastating outcome; we are all very proud of the Miramichi Lodge team - thank you for all your hard work.”

Mayor Michael Donohue, Chairperson of the Health Committee that governs Miramichi Lodge added, “I express my deepest sympathies to the families of the two residents that perished but I am so incredibly grateful for the enormous effort of all staff that has finally ended this extremely trying outbreak.”
