PEMBROKE – The Ottawa Valley Tourist Association (OVTA) is excited to announce the finalists for the 2022 Ottawa Valley Tourism Awards.

Established in 2013, the Ottawa Valley Tourism Awards are awarded to individuals, organizations and events that recognize the importance of working together for the growth of the local tourism industry, as well as offering exceptional visitor experiences.

“The tourism awards are an opportunity to shine a spotlight on some of the people, businesses and events that make the Ottawa Valley such a vibrant and welcoming tourism destination,” notes Chris Hinsperger, Tourism Awards co-chairman. “We have a vast network of individuals doing incredible things to help grow our tourism economy and they deserve to be celebrated.”

Nominations in all three award categories, including Tourism Champion, Business of Distinction and Special Event of the Year, were received from across the Ottawa Valley. A judging panel comprised of members of the OVTA board of directors and Renfrew County Warden Debbie Robinson were tasked with the challenge of selecting a winner for each category.

The finalists in each category include:

  • Marilyn Alexander Tourism Champion of the Year: Cindy Jamieson and Ron Moss
  • Business of Distinction: Braiding Rivers and Ottawa Valley Creative Arts Open Studio
  • Special Event of the Year: Bonnechere Caves’ Picnic Area Concert Series, BORCA’s Fall Poker Ride and Tour de Bonnechere

“As our industry continues to navigate the ongoing challenges caused by the pandemic, the awards give us an opportunity to celebrate the many successes that tourism operators have achieved over the past year,” adds Meghan James, Tourism Award co-chairwoman.

The winners will be announced during the OVTA’s virtual annual general meeting being held on April 26, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The OVTA is the destination marketing organization for the Upper Ottawa Valley and proudly represents more than 230 tourism businesses, comprised of attractions and outfitters, accommodation, food, beverage and retail establishments, artists and galleries, municipalities and community organizations, as well as media and industry suppliers. The OVTA is supported by the County of Renfrew, Renfrew County municipalities and the City of Pembroke.
